Aligarh: Dilapidated canal bridge collapses suddenly, one youth missing
A dilapidated pedestrian bridge over a canal between Shivala Kalan and Ahraula road in Aligarh's Khair area collapsed suddenly. About 10 feet of the four-foot-wide bridge fell into the canal. During the incident, a youth fell into the canal and went missing, while a buffalo managed to swim to safety. Local administration and rescue teams are currently searching for the missing youth.

A pedestrian bridge built over a canal on the road connecting Shivala Kalan and Ahraula villages collapsed suddenly. The bridge was quite old and in a dilapidated condition, with a width of approximately four feet.
According to an Amar Ujala report, a 10-foot-long section of the bridge suddenly broke and fell into the canal. At the time of the incident, a youth passing through lost his balance and was swept away by the strong current of the canal. Panic spread in the area as soon as news of the youth going missing was received.
During the incident, a buffalo also fell into the canal along with the bridge, but it managed to swim out safely. However, no trace of the youth has been found yet.
Upon receiving information about the incident, local villagers gathered at the spot and informed the administration. Police and rescue teams reached the site immediately and began searching for the missing youth. The rescue operation is facing difficulties due to the strong water current in the canal.
Local residents allege that the bridge had been in a dilapidated state for a long time and complaints had been made several times for its repair, but the administration did not pay any attention. There is significant anger among the villagers regarding this incident.
Officials have assured that every possible effort is being made to search for the missing youth. A search operation is being conducted in various parts of the canal with the help of divers.
