According to NDTV India, a BBA student from Aligarh Muslim University has been arrested for trapping and blackmailing individuals through a dating app. The accused allegedly targeted 26 people and extorted seven lakh rupees. Reports state that victims were lured to meetings where their compromising videos were recorded and subsequently used to threaten them with public exposure.

A serious case of blackmailing involving a BBA student from Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has come to light. According to reports from NDTV India, the accused used a dating application to trap individuals and extort significant sums of money. This racket had been active for some time, successfully targeting at least 26 people.

Investigations revealed that the accused would contact young men through the dating app and invite them to meet. During these encounters, the victims were secretly filmed in compromising positions. These recordings were then utilized as leverage for extortion.

The accused threatened the victims, claiming that if they did not pay the demanded amount, the videos would be circulated on social media. Fearing social stigma, many victims complied with the demands. Police stated that the accused managed to extort over seven lakh rupees through this scheme.

Upon receiving information about the activities, the police initiated an investigation and arrested the student. Authorities are currently probing whether other individuals were involved in the operation.

This incident highlights growing security concerns regarding the use of dating applications. Police have advised the public to exercise caution when meeting strangers and to report any suspicious behavior to the authorities immediately.

Currently, the accused is being interrogated to gather more information about potential accomplices and additional victims. The AMU administration has also taken note of the situation.

Police confirmed that electronic devices seized from the accused are undergoing forensic examination to strengthen the evidence. Further legal proceedings in the case are ongoing.
