IIT Kanpur startup develops India's first hybrid robot dog for hazardous environments

An IIT Kanpur-backed startup, X-Terra Robotics, has unveiled India's first hybrid wheeled quadruped robot dog. Named 'Dhav-HY', the robot can reach speeds of 18 km/h. It is designed to navigate dangerous and inaccessible terrains, reducing the need for human presence in high-risk zones. This indigenous technology is expected to play a crucial role in future surveillance and rescue operations.

A deep-tech startup, X-Terra Robotics, supported by IIT Kanpur, has introduced a new technological advancement. The company has developed the nation's first hybrid wheeled quadruped robot dog, designated as 'Dhav-HY'. This innovation aims to minimize human involvement in challenging environments where the risk to life is significant.

The primary feature of this robot lies in its speed and structural design. The machine is capable of running at a speed of 18 kilometers per hour. It incorporates a unique combination of wheels and four legs, which assists it in traversing various types of difficult terrains.

According to reports from Amar Ujala, this robot can easily reach locations that are either difficult or unsafe for humans to access. Its primary function is to inspect hazardous areas and assess the conditions within those zones.

With the arrival of this technology, disaster management and security agencies are expected to receive substantial support. Instead of deploying humans in high-risk areas, this robot can be utilized, thereby reducing the likelihood of accidents.

This endeavor by X-Terra Robotics is considered a significant step toward promoting indigenous technology. Developed under the guidance of IIT Kanpur, the robot has been designed with future requirements in mind.

The robot not only moves at high speeds but also maintains balance on uneven paths due to its hybrid structure. Its operational efficiency distinguishes it from other conventional robots.

In the near future, such robots could be extensively used in industrial inspections, defense, and rescue operations. This technology will not only save time but also prove instrumental in ensuring human safety.
