Fraud in Agra: Two lakh rupees stolen from credit card after fake bank officer sends APK file
In Agra, a fraudster posing as a bank official targeted an individual by promising to cancel an insurance policy. The perpetrator sent an APK file to the victim's mobile phone, which, once downloaded, hacked the device. The fraudster then used the victim's credit card to transfer two lakh rupees from their account. Police are currently investigating the incident.
VIMARSHNAARAD TVA shocking case of cyber fraud has emerged in Agra, where an individual was swindled out of two lakh rupees under the pretext of cancelling an insurance policy. The fraudster contacted the victim by posing as a bank official and successfully executed the crime by gaining the victim's trust.
The perpetrator called the victim, claiming that their insurance policy could be cancelled. Falling for the ruse, the victim agreed to proceed with the process. Subsequently, the accused sent an APK file to the victim's mobile phone and instructed them to download it.
As soon as the victim installed the file on their phone, the device was compromised. The control of the mobile phone was effectively transferred to the fraudster. Following this, the perpetrator used the victim's credit card details to transfer a significant sum of two lakh rupees from the account.
The victim realized they had been defrauded only after receiving notifications regarding the unauthorized transactions. By that time, the fraudster had already siphoned off the entire amount. This incident has once again raised serious concerns regarding digital security.
According to reports from Amar Ujala, cybercriminals are increasingly using dangerous files sent under the guise of attractive offers or policy cancellations to hack mobile devices. Experts emphasize that downloading any unknown link or file can be extremely risky.
Police have registered a complaint regarding the incident and have initiated an investigation with the assistance of the cyber cell. Officials are advising the public not to download any applications or files at the behest of unknown individuals and to avoid sharing sensitive banking information.
