Violent protests in Agra over UGC demands, expressway blocked and vehicles pelted with stones

Protesters in Agra caused significant unrest on Sunday while demanding a rollback of UGC decisions. During a tractor march, approximately one thousand demonstrators broke through police barricades and blocked the Yamuna Expressway. Police were forced to use lathi-charge to control the situation. Incidents of stone-pelting at vehicles were also reported, leading to widespread chaos and disruption in the area.

Sunday was a day of significant unrest in Agra as protesters took to the streets to demand a rollback of UGC decisions. According to reports from the Samvad News Agency, approximately one thousand demonstrators marching towards the collectorate forcibly broke through police barricades near Nadau. The protest, which began as a tractor march, quickly escalated into a violent demonstration.

Protesters completely blocked the Yamuna Expressway, severely disrupting traffic flow. Commuters and vehicle drivers faced immense difficulties due to the blockade. Observing the deteriorating situation, the police resorted to a lathi-charge to disperse the crowd. During this process, intense clashes occurred between the protesters and the police.

During the commotion, some miscreants pelted stones at vehicles passing by on the road. The stone-pelting resulted in broken windshields for several vehicles and caused panic among passengers. Police reached the spot to manage the situation, but due to the large number of protesters, chaos persisted for a considerable time.

Local administration has taken the incident seriously. Police officials stated that while everyone has the right to protest peacefully, strict action will be taken against those who take the law into their own hands. Authorities are currently identifying individuals involved in the stone-pelting and the destruction of police barricades.

Heavy police force has been deployed in the surrounding areas to prevent any further untoward incidents. While the situation is currently reported to be under control, tension remains high. The administration has appealed to the public to ignore rumors and maintain peace.

Due to the entire sequence of events, long queues of vehicles formed on the Yamuna Expressway. The protesters are demanding that the UGC decisions be rolled back. However, no official dialogue has taken place with the administration yet. Police are now identifying the miscreants based on video footage.
