VIMARSHNAARAD TVWith the goal of India becoming a developed economy by 2047, NLC India Limited (NLCIL) is rapidly advancing toward modernizing and sustaining its energy production capacity. With a current power generation capacity of 8,405 MW and a mining capacity of 59.10 MTPA, this Navratna enterprise is evolving into an integrated energy powerhouse.
To ensure energy security, NLCIL aims to increase its mining capacity to 104.35 MTPA by 2030 and 115.85 MTPA by 2047. Moving toward cleaner energy, the company is working on supercritical and ultra-supercritical thermal power projects in Ghatampur, Talabira, and Machhakata, which will significantly reduce emissions.
To improve logistical efficiency, the company is developing 'First Mile Connectivity' (FMC) rail corridors, which will reduce dependence on road transport and lower emissions. In the renewable energy sector, NLCIL, through its subsidiary NIRL, aims to achieve a capacity of over 10 GW by 2030 and 32.7 GW by 2047.
The company is also promoting Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and Pumped Storage Projects (PSP) to balance the intermittency of the renewable energy grid. Furthermore, a green hydrogen pilot plant in Neyveli and a partnership with IIT Madras on carbon capture technology reflect the company's forward-looking approach.
Regarding strategic minerals, NLCIL has obtained licenses for the exploration of phosphorite, limestone, vanadium, and titanium in Chhattisgarh and Telangana. Additionally, the company is exploring opportunities for critical minerals internationally through KABIL. All these efforts are proving instrumental in making India self-reliant in the energy sector and laying the foundation for a low-carbon future.
