Repair work begins on Kanpur's old Jajmau Ganga bridge, traffic diversion implemented for three months

Repair work to replace the bearings of the old Jajmau Ganga bridge on the Kanpur-Lucknow route has commenced. The National Highways Authority of India has initiated a traffic diversion trial by installing barriers at three locations for safety. The bridge will remain closed for the next three months.

Repair work has commenced on the old Jajmau Ganga bridge, which connects Kanpur and Lucknow. Given the necessity of replacing the bridge's bearings, the administration has decided to close it for three months. During this period, a diversion system has been implemented to ensure the smooth flow of traffic.

Officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) began the diversion trial on Sunday. The cooperation of the Unnao police is also being utilized in this process. Officials stated that this step was necessary, keeping in mind safety and the pace of the repair work.

To prevent any accidents during the repair work, barriers have been installed at three different locations. Through these barriers, vehicles are being diverted toward alternative routes. The local administration has appealed to drivers to follow the designated diversion routes to avoid traffic congestion.

The closure of the bridge will affect daily commuters and the movement of heavy vehicles. However, the NHAI has assured that efforts will be made to complete the repair work within the stipulated timeframe. The use of the bridge will remain completely prohibited during this three-month period.

The local police and traffic department have jointly increased surveillance to ensure there is no disorder during the diversion. Commuters have been advised to plan their journeys in advance and utilize alternative routes.

This repair work is crucial for the structural integrity of the bridge. Maintenance had been demanded for a long time due to issues with the bridge's bearings. With the work now underway, travel is expected to become safer and more convenient in the future.
