SP workers hold protest in Kanpur, clash with police over removal of names from voter list

Samajwadi Party workers in Kanpur organized a protest march on Sunday against the removal of names from the voter list. The march proceeded from Bada Chauraha to the Collectorate. During the demonstration, a heated clash broke out between the workers and the police as the protesters attempted to burn an effigy of the Chief Election Commissioner.

Samajwadi Party workers staged a significant protest in Kanpur on Sunday. The party alleges that a large number of names have been removed from the voter list, and they took to the streets to express their outrage against this action.

The protesting workers organized a march from the city's Bada Chauraha to the Collectorate. Throughout the procession, they raised slogans against the government and the Election Commission. The workers are demanding that the discrepancies in the voter list be rectified immediately.

The situation turned tense during the march when SP workers attempted to burn an effigy of the Chief Election Commissioner. The police force deployed at the site intervened to stop them, leading to a heated clash between the police and the protesters.

The police used force to control the demonstrators and prevent the burning of the effigy. This led to a chaotic scene that lasted for some time. The workers alleged that they were being prevented from conducting a peaceful protest.

Leaders of the Samajwadi Party claim that there has been manipulation in the voter list and that the names of their supporters have been deliberately removed. They have warned that if their demands are not met, they will launch a larger movement in the future.

The administration has not yet issued an official statement on the matter, but security arrangements around the Collectorate were tightened. The police stated that maintaining law and order remains their primary objective.

Due to the protest, traffic on the main intersection and surrounding roads was affected for a short period. The police cleared the area after bringing the situation under control.
