NITI Aayog Member Dr. M. Srinivas Visits National Institute of Indian Medical Heritage in Hyderabad
NITI Aayog health member Prof. (Dr.) M. Srinivas inspected the NIIMH in Hyderabad. He commended the efforts to document and preserve India's ancient medical systems. Dr. Srinivas suggested adopting international standards to gain global recognition, promoting educational tourism, and launching joint training programs in collaboration with regulatory bodies to strengthen the institute's impact.

NITI Aayog health member Prof. (Dr.) M. Srinivas recently visited the National Institute of Indian Medical Heritage (NIIMH) in Hyderabad, which operates under the Ministry of AYUSH. He was accompanied by Dr. Shobhit Kumar, OSD (Health) at NITI Aayog, and Dr. Janhavi Prajapati, a Young Professional.
Dr. N. Srikanth, Deputy Director General of the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences, welcomed Professor Srinivas. He provided a detailed overview of the institute's digital portals, historical archives, and ongoing research into traditional medical systems. Dr. Goli Penchala Prasad briefed the delegation on the institute's key achievements and current activities.
Professor Srinivas inspected the museum, library, and research departments. He also viewed a documentary produced by the institute regarding the Rani Rudramadevi inscription under the SAHI project. He praised the efforts to digitize rare manuscripts and preserve scientific records.
In his address, he emphasized the need to adopt international standards for the conservation of medical heritage. He suggested that the institute should be developed as a hub for educational tourism to benefit students and professionals.
Professor Srinivas proposed that NIIMH should collaborate with the National Medical Commission and the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine to launch joint post-doctoral programs and training courses. He also recommended establishing small museums in institutions like the IITs.
He stressed the necessity of strategic efforts to increase the institute's global visibility. Commending the dedication of the leadership and staff, he described the facility as a temple that preserves India's rich medical history.
Concluding his visit, he assured the institute of full support from NITI Aayog to further strengthen its activities and research initiatives.
