The healthcare journey for a family continues from birth through old age. Beyond medicines, there is a constant need for surgical and health-related products. The government is working to make these needs affordable through the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP). By expanding the healthcare basket across a network of over 20,000 Janaushadhi Kendras, the government is making essential items more accessible.

As of August 2026, the scheme includes 2,110 medicines and 315 surgical and medical devices. These cover treatments for major illnesses like cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and allergies, alongside nutraceuticals. Over the last five financial years, sales through these centers reached ₹7,873.85 crore, providing citizens with direct savings of approximately ₹37,200 crore.

For infant care, Janaushadhi Kendras offer products like baby diapers, wipes, feeding bottles, and manual breast pumps at subsidized rates. For instance, a pack of baby wipes is available for ₹45. Postpartum care items, such as abdominal belts and cervical pillows, are also part of this basket, providing necessary support to mothers.

To support growing children and those with respiratory issues, the centers provide electrical nebulizer machines and masks. Additionally, tools for regular health monitoring, such as glucometer test strips and pulse oximeters, are available. These products not only assist in treatment but also make daily health management more accessible.

For the care of the elderly and dependents, the government has introduced a dedicated range of adult diapers under 'Jan Aushadhi Swabhiman'. For families managing the long-term health of a loved one, even minor savings on frequently purchased items translate into significant financial relief over time.

The government is in the process of further expanding this basket. Future additions to the network will include motion-knee braces, walkers, medical steam vaporizers, foot elevator pillows, and pregnancy back support belts. This expansion reflects the government's ongoing efforts to make a wide range of healthcare, mobility, rehabilitation, and assistive care products accessible to all citizens.
