The Department of Land Resources, under the Ministry of Rural Development, launched the 'Swachhata Hi Seva' campaign on September 17, 2026. The primary objective of this initiative is to promote cleanliness, responsible waste management, and the spirit of public service. The department has encouraged all its officers and employees to play an active role in this campaign.

Highlighting the importance of cleanliness on this occasion, Department Secretary Shri Narendra Bhushan stated that cleanliness is not limited to just cleaning one's surroundings; rather, it is about taking responsibility for the shared spaces we use in daily life. He emphasized that the real impact of this campaign will be visible only when every individual makes cleanliness a part of their daily conduct.

Under this initiative, employees are being encouraged to keep their offices and premises clean. The department believes that the responsibility for cleanliness should not be left solely to sanitation workers. Instead, every citizen should take personal responsibility for keeping their surroundings free from litter.

Special attention has been given to the management of plastic waste and electronic waste (e-waste) in the campaign. Employees have been advised to identify unusable items and adopt options for their reuse, repair, or recycling. This will help in promoting a circular economy.

The department has called for adopting habits of minimizing waste generation and avoiding littering. Connecting cleanliness with public service, the department also shared examples of converting plastic waste into useful products, which demonstrate the possibilities of waste management.

This campaign sends a message of significant social change through small changes at the individual level. The department has urged its personnel to remain aware of cleanliness in their homes and communities as well and set an example for others.

Ultimately, the 'Swachhata Hi Seva' initiative is a significant step toward achieving the goals of responsible citizenship and sustainable development. The department's effort is to ensure that cleanliness is viewed as a shared responsibility, making the creation of a clean and healthy India possible.
