2.87 Lakh Sisters Avail Free Roadways Bus Travel Facility on Rakshabandhan in Uttar Pradesh

On the occasion of Rakshabandhan, the Uttar Pradesh government provided free bus travel for women. According to Amar Ujala, approximately 2.87 lakh women utilized this service. However, a shortage of buses caused significant inconvenience, leaving many women waiting for hours at bus terminals. Etah reported the highest number of women utilizing the free travel facility compared to other regions.

On the auspicious occasion of Rakshabandhan, the Uttar Pradesh government offered free travel for women on state roadways buses. The initiative aimed to ensure that sisters could reach their brothers safely and conveniently. Official data indicates that approximately 2.87 lakh women across the state took advantage of this special facility.

However, the ground reality after the announcement of free travel appeared quite different. Due to a limited number of buses, passengers faced significant difficulties. At several major bus terminals, women were seen waiting for hours with their young children and heavy luggage, hoping to board a bus.

The rush of passengers was so intense that there was barely any space left inside the buses. In many locations, women struggled to find transport, making their journey quite arduous. The high volume of travelers also led to chaotic scenes at various bus stations.

According to the report, Etah district recorded the highest number of women utilizing this free bus service compared to other districts. While women there made extensive use of the facility, the shortage of buses remained a major challenge in that region as well.

Amar Ujala reports that despite the commendable nature of the free travel scheme, the lack of sufficient bus availability proved to be a significant shortcoming. Had the number of buses been increased, it is likely that women would not have faced such severe inconvenience.

In their haste to reach home for the festival, many women remained stationed at bus terminals for long durations. The arrangements made by the administration appeared insufficient in the face of the massive number of travelers.

Ultimately, for many sisters, this Rakshabandhan journey turned into a struggle rather than a pleasant memory. Passengers are now demanding an increase in the number of buses during such schemes in the future to avoid similar hardships.
