President of India Droupadi Murmu presented the 72nd National Film Awards during a ceremony held in Kevadia, Gujarat, on September 22, 2026. During the event, she conferred the prestigious 2024 Dadasaheb Phalke Award upon veteran actor Anant Nag for his exceptional contributions to Indian cinema.

In her address, the President praised Anant Nag, noting that his acting represents a unique blend of theatre and cinema. She remarked that his authentic and effortless acting style serves as an inspiration for future generations of artists.

Addressing the gathering, the President stated that Indian films reflect the traditions, struggles, and dreams of the nation. She expressed her pleasure that the event was hosted at the 'Statue of Unity' complex, which stands as a symbol of cultural unity.

Highlighting various award-winning films, the President mentioned that movies like 'Article 370' and 'Bhakshak' bring critical societal issues to the forefront. She also commended 'Swatantrya Veer Savarkar' and the Santhali film 'Angen' for promoting cultural diversity.

Delivering a message to the film industry, the President emphasized that the work culture within film production should be rooted in respect and sensitivity toward all members. She urged filmmakers to ensure the social security of junior artists and support staff.

Addressing popular actors, the President noted their significant influence on the youth. She appealed to artists to refrain from endorsing substances harmful to health and to instead set an example of a disciplined lifestyle.

Finally, the President commended the jury members and suggested that women's participation in regional juries should be increased to ensure a more comprehensive human perspective in the selection process.
