Retired GM Duped of 22 Lakh Rupees via Digital Arrest in Shahjahanpur, Police Investigation Underway

In Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh, cyber criminals defrauded a retired GM of 22 lakh rupees by subjecting him to a 'digital arrest.' The scammers used the threat of an arrest warrant and the pretext of verifying bank accounts to coerce the victim into transferring the funds. Upon receiving the complaint, the police registered a case and have initiated an investigation with the help of the cyber cell.

A serious case of cybercrime has emerged in Shahjahanpur, where a retired General Manager was trapped in a 'digital arrest' scheme and swindled out of lakhs of rupees. According to a report by Samvad News Agency, the criminals intimidated the victim by threatening arrest, causing mental distress, and successfully coerced the transfer of 22 lakh rupees.

The fraudsters contacted the victim, posing as investigative officers, and claimed that an arrest warrant had been issued against him. Exploiting this fearful situation, they kept the victim under 'digital arrest' and managed to transfer the entire amount into their own accounts under the guise of verifying his bank records.

Once the victim realized he had been defrauded, he immediately contacted the police. Taking the matter seriously, the police have registered a case under relevant sections. Currently, the local police and the cyber cell team are working together to track down the perpetrators.

Officials noted that cases of fraud under the guise of 'digital arrest' are on the rise. Cybercriminals often target retired officials or senior citizens, assuming they will be easily intimidated.

The police have appealed to the public not to be intimidated by phone calls from unknown individuals and to refrain from sharing bank account details. Any suspicious calls should be reported immediately to the nearest police station or the cyber helpline number.

In this case, the police have intensified the investigation based on technical evidence. Details of the criminals' bank accounts and phone numbers are being scrutinized to ensure they are apprehended as soon as possible.

This incident has become a topic of concern in Shahjahanpur, with residents worried about cyber security. The police administration has advised the public to remain vigilant.
