A tragic incident occurred in Hamirpur district on Sunday evening when a teenage girl was swept away by a strong current while crossing a drain between Puraini and Uparhanka villages. The girl was returning home from the fields when the accident happened on a causeway. Two individuals present at the scene attempted to rescue her, but the intensity of the water flow made it impossible to save her.

At the time of the incident, the water current in the drain was extremely strong. As the girl attempted to cross the causeway, she lost her balance and was caught in the powerful flow of water. Witnesses stated that the pressure of the water was so intense that she could not maintain her footing and was swept away into deeper waters almost immediately.
Two other people who were present on the causeway witnessed the girl being swept away. They acted quickly and attempted to reach her to pull her to safety. However, the velocity of the water was so severe that they were unable to reach her, and she disappeared into the current right before their eyes.
According to local information, the accident took place while the girl was heading home after finishing her daily chores. During the monsoon season, drains and causeways in rural areas often become hazardous, making travel across them highly risky.
