Ganeshotsav begins in Uttar Pradesh; traffic diversions in Lucknow and bridge closure in Kanpur

Ganeshotsav celebrations commenced across Uttar Pradesh on September 14. Lucknow has implemented traffic diversions for the ten-day festival. Simultaneously, in Kanpur, a three-month diversion has been initiated at the old Jajmau Ganga bridge for bearing replacement, with NHAI officials installing barriers to manage the flow.

Uttar Pradesh is witnessing significant changes in both cultural celebrations and infrastructure management. In the capital, Lucknow, the Ganeshotsav festival began on September 14. Due to the expected increase in traffic during the ten-day festivities, the administration has introduced a special traffic diversion plan to ensure smooth movement across the city. Commuters are advised to check the updated route plans before traveling.

Meanwhile, in Kanpur, essential infrastructure maintenance has commenced. The old Jajmau Ganga bridge, located on the Lucknow-Kanpur route, is undergoing work to replace its bearings. Consequently, the bridge will remain closed for the next three months to facilitate these repairs.

As part of the maintenance process, a trial for the traffic diversion began on Sunday. Officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), in coordination with the Unnao police, have installed barriers at three strategic locations to regulate traffic flow away from the bridge.

Authorities stated that these measures are necessary to manage crowds during the Ganeshotsav period and to ensure the structural integrity of the bridge. Residents and motorists have been encouraged to utilize alternative routes to avoid potential delays and congestion.

In Lucknow, police personnel have been deployed to oversee security and traffic management throughout the festival. Officials confirmed that the traffic police are maintaining constant vigilance to prevent any disruption during the celebrations.

In Kanpur, the barriers at the Jajmau bridge are redirecting both heavy vehicles and local traffic. The NHAI has assured the public that efforts are being made to complete the repair work within the designated timeframe to minimize long-term inconvenience.

In both cities, the administration has requested cooperation from the public. While the priority in Lucknow remains maintaining peace and smooth traffic during the festival, the work in Kanpur is being treated as a mandatory safety measure for the bridge's longevity.
