8 million women travel for free on buses in Uttar Pradesh over two days; additional buses deployed
Over the course of two days during Rakshabandhan, 80 lakh women in Uttar Pradesh availed the benefit of free travel on state transport buses. Male co-passengers also utilized the services, and additional buses were deployed to manage the rush. Under the 'Lokmata Ahilyabai Matrushakti Yojana', elderly women have also started receiving the benefit of free bus travel.
VIMARSHNAARAD TVDuring the Rakshabandhan festival in Uttar Pradesh, a massive surge of women passengers was observed in state transport corporation buses. According to official figures, approximately 8 million women availed the benefit of free bus travel over the past two days. This special facility provided by the state government made travel significantly easier for women during the festival.
During this period, not only women but also their male co-passengers utilized the transport services. In view of the increasing number of passengers, the transport department operated additional buses to ensure that no traveler faced inconvenience. Special arrangements were made at bus stations to manage the heavy influx of passengers.
According to an Amar Ujala report, a new initiative was also witnessed this Rakshabandhan. The 'Lokmata Ahilyabai Matrushakti Yojana' was effectively implemented starting Friday. Under this scheme, elderly women are now also being provided with the facility of free travel in state buses.
Transport department officials stated that the operation of additional buses helped passengers reach their destinations on time. Instructions had already been issued to all depots to ensure the availability of buses during the festival.
This free travel facility was not only a gift for women but also promoted the use of public transport. A large number of women utilized this facility to travel to their maternal and marital homes.
This initiative by the state government is being appreciated, as it not only provided financial relief to women but also made travel safer and more convenient during the festival. The transport department had appealed for cooperation from passengers, which yielded positive results.
