A special campaign by the Uttar Pradesh electricity department has yielded positive results, with power theft incidents dropping by 18 percent. A special campaign aimed at strengthening the power distribution system in Uttar Pradesh has achieved notable success. According to reports from Amar Ujala, there has been an approximately 18 percent decline in electricity theft cases across the state. This improvement is attributed to the strict monitoring and recovery policies recently implemented by the department.

Officials specifically identified 372 power feeders across the state for this campaign. Intensive investigations were conducted in these areas regarding complaints of illegal power usage and meter tampering. During this process, the focus remained on consumers who had not paid their electricity bills for a long period.

During the drive, the department took extensive action to recover outstanding dues. According to the report, this effort resulted in the collection of 614.86 crore for the state exchequer. This recovery has not only helped in increasing revenue but has also created awareness among consumers regarding timely bill payments.

The impact of this campaign is clearly visible across all power corporations in the state. With the reduction in electricity theft, there has also been a decline in technical and commercial losses (line losses) incurred by the corporations. This has raised hopes for improvements in the quality of power distribution.

Sources from the electricity department state that similar monitoring will continue in the future to completely control the issue of power theft. By analyzing feeder-wise data, special attention is being given to areas where the level of loss remains high.

This initiative is part of the Uttar Pradesh government's policy aimed at making the power system transparent and self-reliant. Consumers have also been urged to obtain legal connections and pay bills regularly to ensure uninterrupted power supply.

Overall, this campaign has proven to be a positive step for the state's power sector. The increase in revenue is expected to accelerate the modernization of infrastructure and new projects, which will ultimately benefit the general public.
