Cyber fraudsters swindle 12 crore rupees from elderly in Uttar Pradesh over two years

Cyber criminals in Uttar Pradesh have defrauded the elderly of approximately 12 crore rupees over the past two years. According to an Amar Ujala report, the scammers utilized methods such as digital arrests, money laundering threats, and mobile phone hacking. Victims include retired naval officers, professors, and doctors.

A major cybercrime wave targeting the elderly has emerged in Uttar Pradesh. According to a special report by Amar Ujala, cyber fraudsters have swindled approximately 12 crore rupees from senior citizens within the last two years.

The scammers employed several sophisticated and modern techniques to execute these frauds. These include digital arrests, fabricated money laundering cases, and mobile phone hacking. By using these methods, the criminals intimidated the elderly into transferring large sums of money.

Among the victims are many distinguished and retired professionals. The report indicates that the list of those defrauded includes former Indian Navy officers, university professors, and doctors who lost their life savings to these criminals.

Cyber criminals often pose as government officials or members of investigative agencies during phone calls. They successfully convince victims that they are about to face legal trouble, causing the elderly to comply with their demands out of fear.

This situation highlights the vulnerability of the elderly and the lack of cyber literacy among them. The fraudsters have cleverly exploited the technical knowledge gap of senior citizens.

Police and cyber cell teams are currently investigating these cases. However, the large number of elderly victims has become a significant challenge for the administration.

Experts emphasize that the elderly need to be more cautious regarding digital transactions. Avoiding the sharing of personal information during unsolicited calls remains the best method of protection.

Authorities have appealed to the public to report any suspicious calls or messages immediately to the cybercrime portal. Awareness campaigns are also being conducted to prevent such incidents.
