Vice-President Calls Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu 'Mini India', Appreciates Development Works
Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan, during his maiden visit to Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, described the Union Territory as 'Mini India'. He lauded the development achieved under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Administrator Praful Patel. Highlighting improvements in health, education, and connectivity, he termed the region's progress as a significant contribution to the vision of 'Viksit Bharat 2047'.
Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan addressed a public function at Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Government College in Silvassa during his first official visit to the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. Praising the region's social diversity and cultural heritage, he referred to it as 'Mini India'. He noted that people from various parts of the country live here in harmony and contribute to the region's growth.
Lauding the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the efforts of Administrator Praful Patel, the Vice-President stated that the Union Territory is an excellent example of innovative governance and public participation. Highlighting the progress made over the last decade, he mentioned that over 450 infrastructure projects worth more than Rs 13,000 crore have been initiated. This includes 800 kilometers of roads built at a cost of over Rs 4,000 crore.
Discussing the changes in the healthcare sector, the Vice-President pointed out that before 2019, there was not a single medical college in the region, whereas now there is a medical college along with Namo Hospitals operating in Silvassa and Daman. He stated that in the last three years, TB cases have declined by 57 percent and malnutrition by 58 percent. Additionally, the target of 100 percent registration under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission has been achieved.
In the field of education, he mentioned the construction of 21 new schools with an investment of over Rs 700 crore and the provision of smart classrooms. Furthermore, the establishment of campuses for prestigious institutions like NIFT and Gujarat National Law University has opened new avenues of opportunity for the youth.
Highlighting the growing importance of tourism, the Vice-President noted that the number of tourists has increased from 6 lakh in 2021 to 50 lakh in 2025. Projects like the Daman Night Market, Ram-Setu Seafront, and water sports have brought global recognition to the region's natural beauty.
Shedding light on industrial development, he mentioned that over 7,500 manufacturing units are operating through the MSME sector, creating more than 2.8 lakh employment opportunities. The inauguration of the Namo Airport has further strengthened connectivity with Delhi, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad.
In conclusion, the Vice-President recalled the contributions of Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that the Union Territory is making a significant contribution to the vision of 'Viksit Bharat 2047'. He also commended the local administration for achieving the goal of 100 percent solarization of government buildings.
