NMDC Limited has commenced operations at its 2 million tonnes per annum capacity pellet plant in Nagarnar, Chhattisgarh. This initiative is part of a large integrated project worth Rs 5,427 crore, which includes facilities such as iron ore processing and a slurry pipeline.

This integrated project connects the company's iron ore operations in Bacheli with the steel plant in Nagarnar. Under this project, a new iron ore processing plant and a 135-kilometer-long slurry pipeline have also been established in Bacheli.

The slurry pipeline will transport processed iron ore concentrate from Bacheli to Nagarnar. This serves as an effective alternative to transporting ore by road, thereby reducing dependence on railways. The pipeline passes through 61 villages in the Bastar and Dantewada districts.

On the occasion of the pellet plant's inauguration, NMDC Chairman-cum-Managing Director Amitabh Mukherjee described it as a significant achievement. Due to adverse weather conditions, he could not reach the site personally but monitored the entire process from the headquarters.

This pellet plant utilizes the 'Straight Grate Induration' technology for steel manufacturing. It will enable NMDC to convert fines and slimes obtained from its Bailadila mines into high-quality concentrate and pellets.

As part of the company's expansion strategy, NMDC aims to increase its iron ore production capacity to 100 million tonnes in the long term. This project is a major step towards adding value-added products to the company's portfolio.

Amitabh Mukherjee stated that completing this project was a challenging task, but today that dream has become a reality. This commissioning strengthens NMDC's presence across the entire value chain, from mining to pellet production.

The objective of this project is to ensure the optimal utilization of iron ore. It provides a dedicated link between Bacheli and Nagarnar, which will take the company's operational efficiency to new heights.
