According to a report by NDTV India, the commission has taken this step in view of the seriousness of allegations regarding advertisements containing Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse Material (CSEAM) on Meta's platforms. In this regard, the commission has summoned top officials of Meta India once again.
The commission has directed the Managing Director and the Head of Meta India to appear in person on September 16. This summons is part of the ongoing probe being conducted by the commission to ensure the safety of children on social media platforms.
The NCPCR stated that it had raised questions earlier regarding the appearance of such objectionable advertisements on Meta's platforms. The commission believes that the information provided by Meta in this matter was insufficient, which necessitated the fresh summons.
The commission has made it clear that no negligence will be tolerated in matters related to the safety of children. Meta India has been asked to respond to these allegations and cooperate with the investigation.
This issue is also linked to the broader discourse on child safety and data privacy on social media. The NCPCR is continuously working towards creating a safe environment for children on digital platforms.
There has been no official response from Meta India regarding this summons yet. However, the pressure on the company to ensure accountability has increased following the notice issued by the commission.
All eyes are on the upcoming hearing and the explanation to be provided by Meta's officials. The commission has also indicated that if a satisfactory response is not received, further legal action may be initiated.
This development is being viewed as a warning for digital platforms to take their responsibilities toward children seriously and adhere to safety standards.
