Asian Games 2026: India aims to defend cricket gold, how much has Team India changed since 2023?

With the announcement of the Indian cricket squads for the 2026 Asian Games, discussions have intensified regarding how Team India will replicate its previous success. Compared to the gold medal-winning teams of 2023, the current squads feature substantial changes. Selectors have emphasized a blend of young talent and experienced players.

Regarding the men's cricket team, only five players from the 15-member squad were part of the 2023 gold medal-winning side. This indicates that a significant portion of the team is new. Such a transition could signal major shifts in the team's strategy and playing style. This tournament serves as a major platform for the new players to prove their capabilities.

Similar changes are observed in the women's cricket team, where only six players from the 2023 15-member squad have been retained. The inclusion of new faces has altered the team's balance. The presence of experienced players combined with the enthusiasm of the newcomers could prove vital for the team's performance.

Defending a gold medal in a major tournament like the Asian Games is always a challenge. India delivered an outstanding performance to secure gold in 2023. Expectations remain high this time as well, though adapting with a revamped squad will be a significant task. It will be interesting for the coaching staff to see how these new teams perform on the field.

Experts believe the primary reason for the squad changes is to address future requirements. This is an excellent opportunity to provide international experience to young players. However, the team's success will depend on how well the veteran and new players integrate and play together.

Preparations for both teams are in full swing for the upcoming tournament. Fans are hopeful that Team India will once again establish its dominance. The excitement of cricket at the 2026 Asian Games will be worth watching as India strives to uphold its previous glory.
