Angry residents in Kanpur's Afeemkothi area surrounded Jal Kal department officials after water supply was disrupted. Damage to water pipelines caused by a collapsed drain on GT Road has left several areas in Zone-5 without water for three days. Local residents claim that administrative negligence has forced them to struggle for basic water needs, leading to protests and a confrontation with officials.
VIMARSHNAARAD TVThe frustration of local residents boiled over in Kanpur's Afeemkothi area due to a severe drinking water crisis. Distressed by the disruption of water supply for the past three days, women surrounded the officials of Jal Kal Zone-5 and created a commotion. The protesting women alleged that the administration is ignoring their problems, causing them to face significant hardships.
According to a report by Amar Ujala, the main water pipelines were damaged due to the collapse of a drain located on GT Road. Due to this technical failure, water supply in several areas under Zone-5 has been completely halted. With three days having passed without any improvement, the residents' patience has run out.
Upon receiving news of the protest, a chaotic situation developed at the site. The women questioned the officials about how long they would have to live without water. Local residents stated that their daily chores are being severely affected due to the water shortage, and they are forced to wander far and wide even for drinking water.
Officials reached the spot and tried to pacify the crowd. They explained that the repair work on the pipeline has become challenging due to the collapsed drain, which is causing delays in restoring the water supply. However, the protesting women remained firm on their demand for an immediate solution and gave the officials an ultimatum to complete the work as soon as possible.
It is reported that the water problem in this area is quite old, but the drain collapse incident has made it more severe. Residents say that if the repair work had been started in time, they would not have had to face such a major crisis. There is significant anger among the people regarding the slow working style of the administration.
Currently, employees of the Jal Kal department are engaged in repairing the damaged lines. Officials have assured that the water supply will be normalized soon. However, until the water supply is restored, the residents' difficulties show no signs of easing.
This incident also highlights the weaknesses in the city's infrastructure. The collapse of the drain and damage to water pipelines in a busy area like GT Road have affected both traffic and daily life. Local residents are now demanding that the administration take concrete steps to prevent such incidents in the future.
