Despite leading in wheat production, flour and refined flour remain expensive in Uttar Pradesh; millers express concern

Uttar Pradesh continues to be the leading state in the country in terms of wheat production, yet residents of the state are forced to pay higher prices for flour, refined flour, and semolina. According to an Amar Ujala report, the prices of these essential food items are significantly higher in Uttar Pradesh compared to neighboring states.

Roller flour millers have expressed deep concern regarding this situation. The millers state that despite high production levels, consumers are not receiving any relief, which presents a contradictory scenario.

Experts believe that this price disparity is due to supply chain issues and market factors. Even with abundant local availability of wheat, retail market prices are not decreasing.

The rising costs of basic food items like flour and refined flour are directly impacting the household budgets of the general public. This situation remains challenging for middle and low-income families.

Millers have demanded that the government intervene in this matter to control prices. They argue that if appropriate steps are taken, the benefits of the state's wheat abundance can be passed on to common consumers.
