PM Modi Inaugurates Environment Conference in New Delhi; Launches NGT Mobile App
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a two-day international conference on 'The Future of Environment and Climate Change' in New Delhi. During the event, he also launched the National Green Tribunal (NGT) mobile application. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the two-day international conference titled 'The Future of Environment and Climate Change,' organized by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) in New Delhi. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant, Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav, and NGT Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava.
In his address, the Prime Minister highlighted India's deep historical connection with nature. He stated that ancient cultural wisdom serves as a source of inspiration for modern climate solutions. Appreciating the efforts of the NGT, the Prime Minister also launched the new NGT mobile application during the conference, which is intended to assist in the resolution of environmental grievances.
Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant emphasized environmental jurisprudence, stating that the right to a pollution-free environment is a fundamental right. Linking the adverse effects of climate change to equality and health, he called for global cooperation. Meanwhile, Union Minister Bhupender Yadav noted that India has achieved its non-fossil fuel energy targets ahead of schedule and is playing a leading role globally in the renewable energy sector.
The conference is being attended by jurists, scientists, and policymakers from 17 countries. Its primary objective is to strengthen environmental law, promote climate justice, and develop a roadmap for sustainable development. Through technical sessions, experts are sharing their insights on topics such as energy transition, green infrastructure, and climate action.
Attorney General R. Venkataramani stated that declarations alone are insufficient to face environmental challenges; practical and enforceable mechanisms are required. He advocated for a new global environmental regulatory framework. NGT Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava remarked that environmental protection is a collective responsibility and that this conference is a significant step toward global cooperation.
This two-day event covers various aspects of environmental and climate governance. It includes four technical sessions focusing on themes such as climate justice, equality, green finance, and sustainable cities. The conference aims to develop practical recommendations and share innovations for future collaboration.
India's efforts reflect its commitment to environmental protection not only at the national level but also globally.
