The Rs 142 crore project covers 146 track kilometers to enhance operational efficiency and network capacity. This initiative is part of the modernization of the Vasco-Vijayawada route, aimed at strengthening infrastructure to handle future traffic growth effectively.

Indian Railways has taken a significant step to strengthen infrastructure on the South Coast Railway by approving an upgrade for the Savalyapuram-Guntur rail section. According to the Ministry of Railways, the electric traction system on this 73-kilometer stretch will be upgraded from 1x25 kV to 2x25 kV. A budget of Rs 142 crore has been sanctioned for this project.
The upgrade work will cover a total of 146 track kilometers. The primary objective of this initiative is to enhance operational efficiency in the region and develop the necessary capacity to handle increasing railway activities smoothly.
Officials stated that this project is an integral part of the HUN Route 8. This route connects Vasco-Gadag-Guntakal-Nandyal-Savalyapuram-Guntur-Vijayawada. Modernizing this entire route is expected to improve the overall functionality of the rail network.
With the implementation of the new traction system, the power supply infrastructure for electric train operations will become significantly more robust. This will assist Indian Railways in meeting future traffic demands with greater efficiency and readiness.
Through this project, not only will train operations become smoother, but the reliability of this vital route will also increase. This move is part of a broader strategy by Indian Railways to focus on expanding network capacity and preparing infrastructure for future requirements.
According to the Ministry of Railways, this modernization effort is a key step toward preparing the South Coast Railway network for the future. It is expected to provide long-term benefits to rail passengers and freight services in the region.
