India and Nigeria Discuss Strengthening Cooperation in Women and Child Development
Minister of Women and Child Development Annapurna Devi met with Nigeria's Minister Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim. Both nations shared perspectives on critical issues including women's empowerment, child protection, and digital inclusion.

Minister of Women and Child Development Smt. Annapurna Devi held a significant meeting in New Delhi with the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development of the Republic of Nigeria, Her Excellency Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim. During the session, various aspects of women and child development were discussed between the two nations.
Welcoming the Nigerian delegation, Smt. Annapurna Devi stated that Nigeria's participation during India's BRICS 2026 presidency strengthens the collective efforts of the Global South. She emphasized the vision of women-led development under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
During the discussions, the power of women's organizations, financial inclusion, and methods to promote entrepreneurship were explored in detail. The Minister noted that the Indian government is continuously striving to bring women into the mainstream.
Topics of mutual interest such as clean energy, social security, and national care systems were also included in the dialogue. While discussing child protection and digital safety, Smt. Annapurna Devi highlighted India's key initiatives to support children in difficult circumstances.
Nigerian Minister Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim expressed her gratitude for the warm welcome. She stated that Nigeria is eager to learn from India's best practices, particularly in areas like skill development, nutritional support, and women-led governance systems.
Both ministers agreed that working together in the areas of women's economic groups and the care economy would further deepen the relationship between the two countries.
