Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya chaired a national conference in Mumbai focused on the welfare and social security of construction workers. He emphasized the importance of digital initiatives and expanding international employment opportunities for the workforce.

Union Minister for Labour and Employment Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya chaired a significant national conference on Building and Other Construction Workers (BOCW) in Mumbai. He stated that the workforce is the cornerstone of national development and ensuring their welfare remains a government priority. The conference focused on sharing best practices among states and the effective utilization of the cess fund.

Dr. Mandaviya called for promoting the international mobility of Indian workers so they can leverage global opportunities. He noted that this requires a comprehensive platform and robust digital infrastructure. Minister of State Shobha Karandlaje also emphasized the importance of worker safety, dignified working conditions, and social security schemes.

During the conference, several states presented their digital initiatives. States like Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala showcased systems such as Digital Labour Chowks and online cess collection portals. These initiatives aim to provide workers with easier access to welfare schemes.

Labour Secretary Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar noted that there are over seven crore construction workers in the country, with significant cess funds available for their welfare. He stressed the need to develop a holistic welfare model that places the dignity of labor at its core.

The conference also highlighted safety standards in the construction sector and the provision of basic facilities like crèches for women workers. Dr. Mandaviya urged states to assess the impact of labour codes and explore new methods for the long-term benefit of workers. The conference will continue, with further sessions planned on skill development and employment.
