In Muzaffarpur's Murghiachak village, Muslim families have been crafting flutes for generations. With the approach of Janmashtami, business has seen a significant surge. Supported by a ₹10,000 grant under the Chief Minister's Women's Employment Scheme, local women have purchased raw materials to strengthen their ancestral trade, allowing their flutes to reach markets in several districts.
VIMARSHNAARAD TVA unique example of craftsmanship is emerging from Murghiachak village in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district. Here, about 80 Muslim families have been engaged in the traditional craft of flute making for generations. As the festival of Janmashtami approaches, the artisans have seen a significant increase in their workload. This time, government assistance has provided a new boost to their ancestral business.
The women of the village utilized the Chief Minister's Women's Employment Scheme to receive financial assistance of ₹10,000. They used these funds to purchase the raw materials necessary for flute production. This government support has not only increased their production capacity but has also given them the confidence to take their traditional skills to a larger scale.
The artisans state that this work is an integral part of their family identity. Previously, due to a lack of capital, they could only produce in limited quantities, but the situation is now changing. With the active participation of women and government support, the flutes crafted in the village are now reaching markets in several districts beyond Muzaffarpur.
There has been a massive surge in the demand for flutes on the occasion of Janmashtami. The artisans are working day and night to meet the market requirements. This initiative is not only boosting local employment but also serves as an excellent example of social harmony and the preservation of traditional art.
Locals believe that if such support continues, this small village could become a major hub for flute manufacturing. The role being played by these women is not only paving the way for their economic empowerment but has also become an inspiration for future generations.
