UP: High Court directs government to formulate policy for providing compensation to victims of disaster-like incidents
The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court has issued a significant directive to the Uttar Pradesh government. The court stated that the government should formulate a clear policy to provide compensation to victims of accidental incidents other than natural disasters. This directive aims to provide relief to victims of various types of accidents in the state.
VIMARSHNAARAD TVIn Uttar Pradesh, victims of accidental incidents other than natural disasters will now be eligible for compensation. The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court has directed the state government to formulate a comprehensive policy in this regard. The court believes that it is the government's responsibility to provide relief to the victims of such incidents.
According to the Amar Ujala report, the High Court clarified that currently, compensation provisions exist only for natural disasters, but victims of other types of accidents often do not receive financial assistance. The court has asked the government to develop a system so that victims can receive timely help.
This directive has been issued keeping in mind various types of unexpected incidents occurring in the state. It is often seen that families become destitute due to road accidents, fires, or incidents caused by human error. In such situations, due to the lack of a concrete policy from the government, they have to face many difficulties.
The court has directed the government to keep in mind the financial condition of the victims and the severity of the incident while preparing this policy. This policy should be transparent so that needy people can benefit from it. The government will have to take steps for this task within a fixed time frame.
Legal experts believe that this order of the High Court is going to expand the scope of social security in the state. If the government implements this policy effectively, it will be a major relief for thousands of families who are struggling with financial constraints after falling victim to some accident or the other.
The court has also indicated that the amount of compensation and eligibility criteria should be clear so that any kind of dispute can be avoided in the future. The government will now have to prepare an action plan in this direction and present it before the court.
This decision is both a major challenge and an opportunity for the state administration. The administration will now have to ensure that the implementation of the policy happens at the grassroots level and its benefits reach the last person. After this directive from the High Court, the next action from the state government is awaited.
