Four suspects have been arrested in connection with the case, as they had been running this illegal trade for a significant period.
The modus operandi of the smugglers was highly sophisticated. The accused would change the wrappers of cough syrup to market it as a narcotic substance. Furthermore, they used forged documents to safely transport the medicine to drug dealers. Police investigations revealed that the gang had been operating in an organized manner for quite some time.
The seizure of the codeine-based syrup consignment in Banda exposed the entire network. The police had been receiving reports of drug smuggling in the area for a long time. Acting on this information, the police apprehended the suspects and recovered a large quantity of the banned syrup from their possession.
According to the Amar Ujala report, the gang purchased the stock in Delhi and supplied it to various districts in Bundelkhand. Due to the use of forged documents, it was challenging for the police to track them, but due to vigilance, the members of the gang were eventually arrested.
The police are now conducting further investigations into the matter to identify other individuals and the main kingpins associated with this network. The four arrested suspects are being interrogated to determine the total volume of medicine they have smuggled so far.
