Despite free bus travel for Raksha Bandhan, passengers in Mainpuri face severe struggle
The Uttar Pradesh government offered free bus travel for women on Raksha Bandhan, but a shortage of buses at the Bewar bus stand in Mainpuri left passengers waiting for hours. The surge in travelers during the festival led to chaos and significant difficulties for those trying to reach their destinations.
VIMARSHNAARAD TVOn the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan, the Uttar Pradesh government provided the gift of free bus travel to women. Many sisters reached bus stands to avail of this facility to visit their maternal homes. However, the situation at the Bewar bus stand in Mainpuri was contrary to expectations, as a shortage of buses caused significant inconvenience to passengers.
Due to the festival, the number of passengers at the bus stand increased several times compared to normal days. Passengers reported that due to the lack of adequate bus availability, they had to wait for hours for the next bus. The crowd was so large that there was a scramble among passengers to board as soon as a bus arrived.
According to the news agency, passengers at the Bewar bus stand had to wait for two to three hours for a bus. During this time, many passengers expressed their displeasure, stating that while the free travel announcement was made, the failure to increase the number of buses caused them great trouble.
Passengers present at the bus stand mentioned that in their hurry to reach home on the festival day, they were forced to stand in the sun and crowds for hours. Due to the scarcity of buses, they became overcrowded, which caused even more difficulty for women and children.
While claims of operating additional buses during the festival are often made at the administrative level, the ground reality at this Mainpuri bus stand appeared quite different. The lack of arrangements for buses in proportion to the increasing number of passengers is considered the main reason for this mismanagement.
Due to this situation, many passengers were significantly delayed in reaching their destinations. Since it was Raksha Bandhan, reaching home on time was important for everyone, but the long wait for buses dampened the joy of the occasion.
Currently, passengers have demanded that the administration ensure an appropriate increase in the number of buses during such festivals in the future so that they do not have to face such hardships.
