During Pitru Paksha, devotees perform tarpan by touching the ears of a horse, the tail of a cow, and the horns of a buffalo. Special Sanjab breed horses are stationed here for this purpose, serving only for fifteen days annually.

The Pishachmochan pilgrimage site in Varanasi is renowned for its distinct religious beliefs and tarpan rituals. According to a report by Amar Ujala, a unique procedure is followed here to seek peace for the souls of ancestors who suffered untimely deaths. In this process, devotees perform tarpan by touching specific parts of animals.
