Union Minister for Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan held a video conference with Self-Help Group (SHG) members and beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) across the country. During the interaction, he reiterated the government's commitment to the economic empowerment of rural women. The minister announced that institutional credit worth Rs 10 lakh crore would be provided to SHGs over the next five years, including Rs 1 lakh crore specifically for women starting individual enterprises.

Women from states including Assam, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Tripura shared their success stories during the event. Beneficiaries highlighted how amenities like permanent housing, Ujjwala gas connections, and tap water have improved their quality of life. Praising the confidence of these women, the minister remarked that the journey from 'Lakhpati Didi' to 'Crorepati Didi' has now begun.

To simplify the loan process, the ministry has implemented several measures. Shivraj Singh Chouhan stated that banks have been instructed to avoid demanding unnecessary documents or collateral. A dedicated helpline will soon be launched to resolve grievances promptly. Furthermore, all banks are required to be onboarded on the 'Jan Samarth Portal' by October 31 to ensure real-time monitoring of loan approvals.

An appeal was also made regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday and the completion of his 25 years in public service. The minister urged citizens, particularly SHG members, to light 'Ek Diya Ashirwad Ka' at their homes at 7 PM on September 17. This lamp will serve as a symbol of gratitude for the Prime Minister's long life and the nation's ongoing progress.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan shared that he will personally visit a rural area in Telangana on September 17 to light a lamp alongside the SHG women. He expressed confidence that the women of rural India will continue to set new benchmarks for national development. The government's current goal is to create 6 crore 'Lakhpati Didis' who are increasingly venturing into branding and exports.
