Unemployment Rate Drops from 6 Percent to 3.2 Percent Due to Government Schemes: Dr. L. Murugan
Union Minister Dr. L. Murugan stated that the country's unemployment rate has seen a significant decline due to key government initiatives. During the 20th Rozgar Mela in Chennai, he distributed appointment letters to 285 youths. The Minister noted that schemes like Startup India and Make in India have empowered youth to become job creators rather than job seekers.

Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Dr. L. Murugan, participated in the 20th Rozgar Mela held in Chennai, where he distributed appointment letters to 285 newly recruited candidates. On this occasion, he highlighted that due to the successful implementation of various central government schemes, the national unemployment rate has decreased from 6 percent to 3.2 percent.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in this Rozgar Mela, organized at 45 locations across the country, via video conferencing and distributed appointment letters to over 51,000 youths. Dr. Murugan, at the event held at D.G. Vaishnav College in Chennai, extended his best wishes to the youths selected for key institutions, including the Income Tax Department, Ministry of Defence, and the Department of Posts.
Addressing the new recruits, the Minister stated that their entry into government service is a significant step toward achieving the goal of 'Viksit Bharat 2047.' He urged the youth to view their responsibilities not merely as a job, but as an opportunity to serve the nation and contribute to the country's overall development.
Dr. Murugan emphasized that government employees are the face of the administration; therefore, they must demonstrate honesty, accountability, and empathy while interacting with the public. He noted that initiatives such as 'Make in India,' 'Startup India,' and the 'Mudra Loan Scheme' have inspired youth to pursue self-employment.
Highlighting the growing trend of startups, the Minister mentioned that the number of startups in the country has risen from approximately 400 in 2014 to over 2.5 lakh today. A large number of these startups are founded by youths under the age of 30, reflecting the changing landscape of the nation.
He advised the youth to embrace new technologies and continuously upgrade their professional skills. Referring to emerging sectors like space technology and nuclear energy, he noted that participation of women in these fields is also increasing rapidly.
So far, more than 12.75 lakh appointment letters have been distributed through these Rozgar Melas, reflecting the government's commitment to creating employment opportunities for the youth. At the end of the program, the Minister also discussed the importance of Navodaya Vidyalayas in Tamil Nadu, which will provide quality education to underprivileged students.
