The National Safai Karamcharis Finance and Development Corporation (NSKFDC), operating under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, is dedicated to improving the lives of sanitation workers, ragpickers, and those formerly engaged in manual scavenging. The corporation aims to integrate these communities into the mainstream by providing sustainable livelihood opportunities. Since its inception, it has been promoting socio-economic empowerment through both loan-based schemes and non-loan programs.

Under its financial assistance framework, NSKFDC offers loans of up to Rs 30 lakh for individual beneficiaries and up to Rs 75 lakh for groups. These loans carry interest rates ranging from 6 to 9 percent per annum, with repayment periods spanning three to ten years. Female beneficiaries receive a 1 percent concession on interest rates, while those who repay installments on time are eligible for an additional 0.5 percent discount.

Beyond financial aid, the corporation organizes awareness camps, workshops, and skill development initiatives. These efforts are designed to enhance the entrepreneurial capabilities of beneficiaries and prepare them for safe and dignified employment. These programs are implemented through state channelizing agencies, regional rural banks, and public sector banks.

As of September 10, 2026, the corporation has sanctioned and disbursed Rs 3,365.93 crore in concessional loans. This support has benefited 610,902 individuals. These figures reflect the corporation's commitment to making sanitation workers economically self-reliant.

Established in January 1997, the corporation functions as a non-profit entity. Its vision is to completely eradicate the inhumane practice of manual scavenging. The mission is to ensure that members of the target group can live with dignity and self-respect.

NSKFDC’s operational model places equal emphasis on loan schemes and capacity building. Through skill development, beneficiaries are trained in new technologies and alternative employment opportunities. This not only increases their income but also helps them secure a more respectable position in society.

Ultimately, NSKFDC strives to empower sanitation workers and their families economically. By coordinating various government schemes, the corporation ensures that the benefits of development reach the most marginalized sections of society.
