A Cessna C172 training aircraft veered off the runway in Baramati, Maharashtra. The aircraft was carrying an instructor and a trainee conducting emergency landing drills. No injuries were reported, though the aircraft sustained partial damage. A Directorate General of Civil Aviation team is arriving at the site for a detailed investigation.

An aviation incident occurred at the Baramati airfield in Maharashtra on the afternoon of August 9, 2026. A Cessna C172 aircraft, operated by the Academy of Carver Aviation, veered off the runway. The incident took place at approximately 12:25 PM when the aircraft overshot the runway limits during a training exercise.

At the time, flight instructor Captain Chirag Shashikant Doiphode and trainee Abhijit Jundre were on board. They were conducting circuit and landing emergency training drills. The aircraft had been practicing rejected take-offs on runways 29 and 11. During this procedure, the aircraft failed to stop on the paved surface and veered off the runway while turning to the right.

Officials confirmed that there were no injuries or loss of life in the incident. However, preliminary inspections revealed damage to the aircraft's nose landing gear, engine cover, and propeller. A precise assessment of the damage will be conducted by experts later.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has taken the incident seriously. Their air safety team has been dispatched to the site with immediate effect. The team's primary objective is to determine the circumstances and factors that led to the accident.

The DGCA stated that detailed information will be shared only after the investigation is complete and facts are verified. This training flight was being conducted by a DGCA-approved flight training organization.

Currently, efforts are focused on securing the aircraft and restoring the runway to normal operations. In accordance with aviation safety standards, such incidents are analyzed to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

Officials have assured that a fair investigation into the causes of the incident will be conducted. Meanwhile, other activities at the airfield are being monitored to ensure safety.
