The Department of Telecommunications organized the third Investors' Roundtable in Bengaluru, focusing on the telecom manufacturing sector. The event was chaired by Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav. The primary objective of this conference is to promote investment, innovation, and domestic manufacturing for India's first Integrated Telecom Manufacturing Zone (TMZ) in Gwalior.
Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia stated that 24 companies have already joined this initiative. He mentioned that there is a proposal for an investment of ₹5,500 crore for the telecom manufacturing zone in Gwalior. Additionally, during the roadshow in Bengaluru, investors have committed an additional investment of ₹700 to ₹800 crore.
This initiative is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of 'Make in India' and 'Atmanirbhar Bharat'. The government's goal is to transform India from a service-oriented nation to a product-oriented nation. Special emphasis is being placed on increasing domestic value addition in the telecom sector and taking Indian designs to the global level.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav said that the state is emerging as a major hub for investment due to its strategic location and infrastructure. He added that the government is committed to creating a favorable environment for industries, which will generate new employment opportunities.
The proposed TMZ in Gwalior is being developed as a plug-and-play industrial cluster. It will feature research and development facilities for mobile devices, optical fiber, and 5G/6G technologies. The central government is providing financial assistance of ₹493 crore for its first phase, while the Madhya Pradesh government has provided 170 acres of land free of cost.
Before the conference, the Union Minister visited Qualcomm in Bengaluru and discussed telecom technologies and semiconductor capabilities with their leadership. The government is making efforts to resolve investors' issues within 48 hours to maintain the industry's confidence.
A Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) has been formed for this project, with the Madhya Pradesh government holding a 51% stake and the Department of Telecommunications holding 49%. This collaborative effort is a major step towards establishing India as a strong power on the global telecom manufacturing map.
