An Indian Navy guided missile frigate, currently on an operational deployment, recently arrived in Alexandria, Egypt. The visit, which took place from September 14 to 17, 2026, began with a warm welcome from the Egyptian Navy vessel 'Al Qadeer'. This engagement served as a significant effort to elevate maritime relations between the two friendly nations.

During the stay, the ship's commanding officer and crew visited the Chatby War Memorial to honor the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives during both World Wars. The memorial houses the graves of 12 soldiers and also bears the names of 19 Indian soldiers who lost their lives in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea.

India's Ambassador to Egypt, Suresh K. Reddy, visited the ship and interacted with the crew members. He emphasized the strategic importance of the Indian Navy's presence in the region. The Ambassador's visit highlighted the significance of the diplomatic and defense ties shared between the two countries.

As part of the engagement, the Indian ship participated in a 'Passage Exercise' (PASSEX) with the Egyptian Navy vessel ENS Berenice. This joint exercise involved communication drills, coordinated naval maneuvers, and procedures for refueling at sea. The shared training provided an excellent platform for personnel from both navies to exchange professional expertise.

Such maritime activities not only improve coordination between the two navies but also strengthen cooperation in the field of maritime security. According to officials, this visit serves as a vital step toward further deepening the long-standing friendship between India and Egypt.
